A brief recap of the Bengaluru WordPress Meetup – August 2016 edition.
Topic: Introduction to WooCommerce (Business & Tech)
Venue: 91Springboard
Speakers:
Praveen Selvasekaran, is an employee of Automattic who works with the WooCommerce team remotely from Bangalore. You can’t have a better person than him to give us insights into WooCommerce, the possibilities and where the future lies. Praveen describes himself as “WordPress enthusiast, collector of obscure books, occasional mischief maker/ prankster, and a Rajinikanth fan.”
Shreesha Raj, is the CTO & Co-Founder of Bangalore-based Espertosys Labs Pvt Ltd. He is a full stack developer and has worked on integrating mobile apps with WooCommerce API’s.
We met on August 20th at a co-working space called 91Springboard in Koramangala t0 discuss WooCommerce. Praveen got the discussion under way with an introduction to WooCommerce and its various components.

The discussion then moved towards payment gateways and how you integrate them. Collecting payments in INR and USD and which payment gateways support the respective currencies. Vachan Kudmule, who works at KDC labs, and has developed plugins for WooCommerce shared his insights on the payment flow.
Shreesha shared his experience of how you can use WooCommerce APIs to build applications using WooCommerce as the backend. For example, you can have a mobile app that is powered by a WooCommerce backend which will manage your products, categories, payments and logistics. If you were to build this from scratch, you would have to build the entire WooCommerce functionality which would be a time-consuming and expensive affair.
At the end of the discussion, we brainstormed on the topics for future meetups. Topics suggested were:
- WordPress security & optimization
- WordPress for education
- Hosting and scaling WordPress
- Blogging with WordPress
And here’s some of them after the meetup at a cafe nearby
